Georgia Mansur
An artistic journey fueled by emotion and zest
Georgia Mansur is celebrated in the global art community, but her path to becoming an internationally respected artist and educator wasn’t straightforward. Initially drawn to painting to portray her surroundings, Mansur soon became captivated by the emotional depth of art.
“I’ve studied with some of the leading artists in Australia, Italy, and the U.S.,” Mansur said. “But it was the emotional power of art that truly captured my attention. I wanted to create work that touched people, that communicated something deep and meaningful.”
In 1984, Mansur’s artistic path shifted when she relocated from California to Australia with her husband. Now roughly 7,500 miles away in the Land Down Under, the creative Californian’s passion for landscape painting blossomed, and her style evolved into something uniquely personal. Although oils were her first medium, the mother of three soon embraced watercolors because she valued their organic movement and versatility.
“I didn’t want to create perfectly realistic depictions of landscapes,” Mansur explained. “What interested me was capturing the essence of a place, a feeling. That’s been the focus of my work.”
Mentoring Artists to Maximize Their Creative Potential
Mansur has balanced her life as a working artist with a rewarding role as an educator, nurturing the growth of artists at all stages of their creative voyages. Through her workshops, which are held across the globe, Mansur shuns strict techniques and encourages artists to welcome creative freedom and express their emotions through their art.
“Art is about more than just skill,” Mansur said, noting that experimenting is essential. “It’s about self-expression. It’s about finding your voice, not copying someone else’s. When we free ourselves from the fear of making bad art, that’s when we open the door to truly innovative work.”
Her retreats reflect this philosophy. These immersive experiences provide artists with the tools and space to explore mixed media art—materials ranging from acrylics and gels to fiber and digital grounds. It’s all part of a broader approach to ignite artistic exploration.
