Georgia Mansur

An artistic journey fueled by emotion and zest

Georgia Mansur is celebrated in the global art community, but her path to becoming an internationally respected artist and educator wasn’t straightforward. Initially drawn to painting to portray her surroundings, Mansur soon became captivated by the emotional depth of art.
“I’ve studied with some of the leading artists in Australia, Italy, and the U.S.,” Mansur said. “But it was the emotional power of art that truly captured my attention. I wanted to create work that touched people, that communicated something deep and meaningful.”
In 1984, Mansur’s artistic path shifted when she relocated from California to Australia with her husband. Now roughly 7,500 miles away in the Land Down Under, the creative Californian’s passion for landscape painting blossomed, and her style evolved into something uniquely personal. Although oils were her first medium, the mother of three soon embraced watercolors because she valued their organic movement and versatility.
“I didn’t want to create perfectly realistic depictions of landscapes,” Mansur explained. “What interested me was capturing the essence of a place, a feeling. That’s been the focus of my work.”

Mentoring Artists to Maximize Their Creative Potential

Mansur has balanced her life as a working artist with a rewarding role as an educator, nurturing the growth of artists at all stages of their creative voyages. Through her workshops, which are held across the globe, Mansur shuns strict techniques and encourages artists to welcome creative freedom and express their emotions through their art.
“Art is about more than just skill,” Mansur said, noting that experimenting is essential. “It’s about self-expression. It’s about finding your voice, not copying someone else’s. When we free ourselves from the fear of making bad art, that’s when we open the door to truly innovative work.”
Her retreats reflect this philosophy. These immersive experiences provide artists with the tools and space to explore mixed media art—materials ranging from acrylics and gels to fiber and digital grounds. It’s all part of a broader approach to ignite artistic exploration.

Seductive Surfaces: Unleashing the Artist's Inner Voice

One of Mansur's most eagerly anticipated events is Seductive Surfaces: Painting with Passion. Taking place from June 5 to June 8, 2025, this four-day retreat will guide participants through intuitive painting exercises, emphasizing emotional expression and storytelling through color and texture.
“We’ll be using a variety of materials and techniques,” Mansur said. “The goal is for each student to create work that tells a personal story—whether that’s through memories, photo references, or pure imagination. The emphasis is on self-expression, not perfection.”
While the retreat is open to artists of all abilities, Mansur believes the getaway’s intrinsic value comes from stepping outside one’s comfort zone.
“Art doesn’t have to be serious all the time,” Mansur said, adding that she urges participants to adopt a playful approach to their craft. “It’s about being curious, pushing yourself, and most importantly, having fun.”

Connecting Through Emotion: Art's Deep Emotional Impact

Mansur contends that the most impactful art evokes an emotional response in the viewer. This belief was shaped by her experiences as a creator and her role as an educator.
“The most powerful art doesn’t just depict the world; it connects with the viewer on an emotional level,” she explained. “For me, it’s about communicating something deep and personal. It’s not about being technically perfect. It’s about making an emotional impact.”
Moreover, this philosophy has helped Mansur build a reputation as an artist who recognizes the inseparable link between creativity and emotion. To her, the creative process goes beyond aesthetic appeal; it’s about crafting works that touch the heart and spirit.

An international Reach: From Australia to the World

Mansur’s influence stretches far beyond the shores of Australia. Throughout her career, she has taught workshops across the globe, and her work has been featured in esteemed publications like Plein Air, Watercolor, and Southwest Art. Yet, despite international acclaim, Mansur’s devotion to helping others discover their artistic voice remains unwavering.
“I think the most rewarding part of teaching is seeing the transformation in my students,” she said. “When they realize they can create something meaningful, something that speaks to them personally, it’s an incredibly powerful moment.”
Artists from diverse backgrounds flock to Mansur’s workshops with many traveling from afar to study under her guidance. Her standing as a leading figure in the international art community is reinforced by her position as an ambassador for Daniel Smith Paints and her regular presentations at global art conventions.

The Ongoing Impact of Inspiration

While inspiring others, Mansur stays committed to developing her creative skills.
“I’m constantly evolving as an artist,” Mansur admitted. “Teaching helps me stay engaged with my own work. I learn from my students just as much as they learn from me.”
As her upcoming retreat nears, Mansur is excited to reconnect with returning students and meet new ones.
“There’s a real enthusiasm for this kind of creative freedom,” she said. “I’m excited to see where these retreats will take me and who I’ll meet next.”
